down；　and　bind　him　hand　and　foot；　but　as　he　was　loth　to　hurt　him　

in　his　then　　　defenceless　　state；　　　he　　　contented　　　himself　　with　　parrying　

his　blows　when　he　could；　taking　them　　　in　　　perfect　　good　　　part　　when
